Oregon City Preschool Co-op Philosophy
We accept children of all colors, race and creed at their own
level of development. We strive to create a comfortable
learning environment. Most of our learning is done through
play (songs, games, free exploration and discussion). We
strive to give the children an opportunity to establish life
long social skills.
Children develop and mature greatly in preschool years. At this
age children need to form social contacts with others of their
own age. Preschool provides the opportunity for group play with
friends under careful supervision and conditions not possible at
home. Our school provides a physical environment set up to scale
for a child’s size and level of maturity trying to eliminate
some of the feelings of frustration that comes from living in a
world set up for adults. Our teacher works with each child
according to his/her needs. She understands the child’s point of
view, addresses any problems and desires.
Preschool also gives parents relief from the tensions of full
time parenting responsibilities. This short break on school days
can mean much to the children and the parent.
On parent workdays the parents learn about how children
physically, emotionally and cognitively develop. Parents can
also learn reasonable standards of achievement that can be
expected from children of this age. In parent cooperative
preschool groups, parents and children go to school together.
Our school is run five days a week.
- The 3-4 year olds meet on Tuesday and Thursday from
8:30am to 11:00am.
- The 4-5 year olds meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
from 8:30am to 11:00am.
- The 4-5 year old Pre-K meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday 11:45am to 2:15pm
Oregon City Preschool is located at 718 6th St. in Oregon City. The
building itself is a historical landmark. Oregon City Preschool has been
in its current location for over 40 years and has been teaching children
since 1946. There have been three preschool teachers since the
school started. Teacher Kellie
is our current teacher. Each class is developmentally appropriate for the
age group and there is a focus on play, a learning topic, and
socialization. We also encourage parents and children to grow
together in the class through parent involvement throughout the year. |
